Eternal Security: Fact or Fiction

Hebrews 6:4-6

  1. The Problem about Eternal Security: What does it Mean?
    1. What does it mean?
      1. national security, military
      2. internet security, credit and debit card security
      3. how about the BIG matter….the eternal matter?
        1. where are you going to be forever and ever?
      4. does anybody get perfect when they get “saved”
      5. if sinning gets you kicked out, then NO ONE gets to stay in the family
        1. if sin gets you evicted and ejected…then the question is, how much sin gets you kicked out?
        2. does the number go up to 700? 800?
        3. “once saved, always saved” just a Baptist denomination?
        4. no….. don’t believe it just because someone said that’s the doctrine.
        5. We don’t go by denominational doctrine; we go by Biblical doctrine.
      6. gets saved, baptized, then lives like the devil???
        1. just getting baptized
        2. just getting in church
        3. just shaking hands with the pastor….
        4. these do not get us into heaven… and into a relationship with Christ..
      7. What does it take?
        1. conviction from God’s Spirit.
        2. convincing….of “I’m not right, but I want to be right…” I believe that Christ rose again…and that Jesus can make me right through His blood.
        3. I want to be in your family…
        4. Conversion…. make me a follower…
          1. giving your past, present, and future to the Lord.
      8. The question is that, can we get that taken away….
      9. The truth is that no one lives perfectly before consummation…
      10. We have not been make perfect just yet.
      11. If parents can love their kids unconditionally, don’t you think Christ loves us unconditionally too?

      13. Two that were in a marriage relationship together for 60 something years…died together… and wrote letters…
      14. Eph. 2:8-9…not by works, so that no one can boast.
      15. if you could work for it, and earn it…than good works could get it and bad works could lose it…but this is not Biblical….
  2. The Promises for Eternal Security: Is it in the Bible?
    1. Romans 8:1…there is NO condemnation for those that are IN Christ Jesus….condemnation means JUDGMENT…
    2. Romans 8:39….NOTHING can separate us from the love of God.
      1. We are eternally secure
      2. John 27….my sheep listen to my voice, and they follow me…NOONE can snatch them out of my hand
      3. Hebrews 10:14…the sacrifice is good for FOREVER..
        1. He gives us a permanency.
      4. Philippians 1:6…. He started a work, and He’ll be faithful to complete the work.
      5. Hebrews 4:4-6
        1. getting saved again?? this is impossible
        2. not a scripture about losing salvation.. this is scripture about people that have never truly found salvation.
        3. instead, Paul is saying “this is about people who have been exposed to the gospel, but disappear.”
        4. J. Phillips….tasted but needs more seasoning?? there’s a great difference in tasting the soup, and then fully making a bowl and enjoying it
        5. A. Rodgers…a person who has never been saved…comes to the threshold, but then comes to the impartible sin.
        6. There is no record in the Word of God of someone being saved and then being lost again….
  3. The Perversion of Eternal Security: Can I live any way I want?
    1. got my ticket to heaven in my pocket…and I can do anything I want to, and I’m in charge of my life….
    2. these people use this “once saved, always saved” in a perverted way…
    3. now I can live like I want to…..well, you didn’t get it..
    4. Romans 10:9…..Confess with your mouth the LORD Jesus….
      1. Lord means “King”
        1. means “he’s in charge”
        2. that doesn’t mean we won’t mess up….
        3. we may slip and fall
        4. the difference is
          1. when a christian falls, there is REMORSE
            1. it bothers us
              1. Adrian Rodgers says…
                1. When the christian laps into sin…they loath it.
                2. When a lost person leaps into sin….they love it.
        5. If this is the case, you need to check up…. you may not have what you think you have.
        6. Scenario: “My family used to go to church, but now they don’t go anymore…and I wonder if they are saved.”
            1. 1 John 2:19
              1. They were either truly saved…and are living miserably
              2. or they were just never truly became a Christ-follower
        7. I am my parents’ son… I might disappoint them…but that doesn’t make them  a none-christian.
        8. “Whoever comes to me, I will in no wise cast out.”
        9. Golden Gate Bridge… a net under the bridge when it was being built… 19 men fell off that bridge, and their lives were saved because of that net.
          1. They called those that fell into that net “the Half-way to Hell Club.”
          2. If you are not in the net, you’re one heartbeat away from hell…
        10. “I was saved yesterday, but am I saved today?” You don’t have to ask this.
